The challenges facing the NHS have been commented on by many observers and practitioners. It is encouraging to see a statement that there will be a 'wholesale shift' in NHS funding rules. The detail of this will be important and we will need to wait until later in the year to see the detail.

There is also a really important reflection that the NHS needs to be more radical about getting more health value out of the service. Whilst we need to wait to see the detail, the discussion itself sends a message that perhaps, maybe this time there will be wholescale service change.
The next three years will bring a “wholesale shift” in NHS funding rules, including the end of “sustainability funds”, the NHS England chief executive said.
